Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 16 October 2009

Take note, taxi users

• I SYMPATHISE with Jade Fletcher (Black cab driver makes off with a dress and passport, October 2). But it’s incorrect to suggest young ladies should use minicabs. If she had indeed pre-booked a licensed taxi, there would have been a record of the driver, just as she says would be the case if she pre-booked a minicab.
The fact she hailed a taxi from the street has caused her the problem. I’m not defending the indefensible: if the driver drove off knowingly with her items in the back, then it is theft. Plain and simple. Everyone who stops a black taxi should have the comfort of knowing the driver won’t abscond with your goods.
Licensed London taxis have interior and exterior display of ID information for passengers to note down if they leave the taxi with valuables inside.
B Fitzgerald
