Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 16 October 2009

More room, and a view

• I MANAGED to catch one of the evening peak-time overground trains from Stratford to Highbury. I did not think that the view out of the window, referred to by some correspondents, was all that bad. It is a lot better than that afforded by the Virgin Pendolino trains, where the windows are too small and at the wrong height to be of any use and where there is so little leg and arm room you soon feel discomfort.
As far as the overcrowding goes, it filled up before we left Stratford and anyone joining at the last minute would have not gained a seat until Highbury. On the other hand, we are talking about a maximum standing time of 16 minutes, far less than you have to endure on the 73 bus.
Had Transport for London consulted over the layout, as Connex did prior to introducing the class 376 trains on the Hayes line, I am sure we would all have asked for something similar. The 378s would have been better as a result.
However, the smooth ride, the ease of access between carriages and the greater leg room in off-peak periods are all distinct improvements on the 313s.
