MacRae suspect ‘at family home’
DETECTIVES hunting the man suspected of killing John MacRae say they believe he is still in Paris with his family.
Last month officers revealed that they wish to speak to 23-year-old French-Algerian Yamine Ladghem-Chikouche who had spent time living with Mr MacRae in his Caledonian Road home before his death in July.
Detective Inspector Mark Lawson said his team are unable to pursue Mr Ladghem-Chikouche at his family’s home as they are forced to comply with the French Fugitive Unit who are leading the investigation now that it is on their soil.
Det Insp Lawson said: “The intelligence at the moment suggests he’s at his family’s home in Paris, but it isn’t as straightforward as getting them to go and knock on the door – it’s a laborious process.
“I know my officers could jump on a train and arrest him but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that.”
In August, Det Insp Lawson told the Tribune that as soon as Mr Ladghem-Chikouche was caught he would be arrested and charged with Mr MacRae’s murder.
Mr MacRae, 55, was killed by a single wound to the heart following a dispute thought to be over a £20 bag of heroin.
Paying tribute to Mr MacRae shortly after his death, neighbours said he was a kind man who would take in “waifs and strays”.
