‘Buy fairtrade produce for Palestine’

PEOPLE in Islington can help relieve Israel’s blockade of Gaza by buying fairtrade Palestinian produce, according to activist Jenny Linnell, who returned in August from a year-long stay in Gaza.
Ms Linnell will share the podium with Palestinian photojournalist Fida Qishta at an Islington Friends of Yibna event at the Town Hall on Monday, at 7.30pm.
Thirty-four-year-old Ms Linnell, who travelled to Gaza with the US-based Free Gaza movement, said “In January, missiles were raining down on Gaza. The components of some of these missiles are made in the UK.
“Raising awareness of this issue is really important, but people can also put pressure on the Israeli government, calling for sanctions and a boycott of Israeli goods.
“I would also urge people to buy fairtrade Palestinian produce. Because of Israel’s blockade, Palestinian farmers are not getting to export their produce and that is having a direct impact.”
