Tributes to shop boss hit by car
A FAMILY and customers were in mourning this week after the death of a popular shopkeeper who was hit by a car in Archway.
Turkish-born Imam Huseyin Oksuz, 46, owner of BS Food and Wine on the junction with Pemberton Road, died in Whittington Hospital following an incident involving an Astra car close to the store at 11.50pm on Tuesday night. He leaves a wife, a teenage son and a young daughter.
Customer Sandra Turner said Imam was a very nice man who always had a smile for his customers.
“It’s a terrible shock and we shall miss him very much,” she said. “But I wonder if this was an accident waiting to happen. This is a very dangerous road.
“The traffic drives at great speed – there have been a number of near-misses here lately.”
Only last month local resident and father of two small children Chris Roche, appeared in the Tribune monitoring the speed of buses that race back to their depot at Pemberton Gardens.
“I’m very sad,” said Mr Roche. “I stood talking to Imam about my campaign to slow down the buses.
“He was very supportive.
“This accident needs to be investigated by the police and Islington Council. We need measures to slow the traffic down.”
An inquest into the death was opened and adjourned on Wednesday. |
