Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 October 2009

Ugly signs ruin streets

• I COULDN’T agree more with Danny Michelson (Speeding? At 23mph? September 25). It seems a high price to pay in council taxpayers’ money and in the disfigurement of our streets to keep our one Green councillor happy with a misguided blanket 20mph road ban.
Can she not see the contradiction in her position as friend to our environment and yet insisting on the erection of hundreds of ugly metal roads signs? Think of the carbon emissions needed for that.
And what will they achieve? Absolutely nothing. Reckless, bad drivers will still break the speed limit whatever signs tell them. Stiffer penalties for careless and dangerous driving are needed instead.
