Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 4 September 2009

Gaza: the good news

• GAZA is in the news again. But this time something positive is happening, something community-developed, strengthening bonds between neighbours and relieving the stress of the continued dire situation.
The Second Annual Rachel Corrie Football Tournament is taking place in the Yibna area of Rafah refugee camp, Gaza, until September 14 during the month of Ramadan.
Once again this tournament is giving hope to vulnerable young people. There are three components: 16-18s, 19 upwards and a one-day event for those aged 10 to 15.
Funds are being raised among friends in the US and London, but more is needed. For example, it is hoped to fund a lighting system for evening play.
Readers are encouraged to send a donation, either via www.globalgiving.com/projects/lights-for-ramadan-soccer-tournament or Islington Friends of Yibna, PO Box 58246, London N1 2UE, or  HSBC, sort code 40 03 33, account no 71582704.
