Huge demand for apprentice scheme
HUNDREDS of people applied for a chance to get a job with Islington Council in a two-year apprenticeship programme that aims to help candidates get back to work.
The council, which received more than 700
applications before its August deadline, will pick 50 apprentices to start work at the end of September in a Town Hall department.
Lib Dem councillor Lucy Watt said: “Apprenticeships give participants the skills and experience they need, whether they want to work for the council or elsewhere.
“It is at times like this that we need to be doing all we can investing in local people’s skills and futures, especially when other organisations are having to cut these opportunities because of commercial pressures.”
Offered to residents over the age of 16, the Islington Apprentices Scheme will provide the successful candidates with training and a chance to gain qualifications while receiving support with housing, debt and childcare. |
