Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 21 August 2009

Hands off our passes

• BEFORE pensioners are means-tested to enable us to continue using our Freedom Passes, two other groups must be checked in some way.
First, children who sometimes have to go only one stop on the bus to school. These are the very children which the government says are obese and need to exercise more. Remember, they can use the pass on holiday or when missing school.
Also, how about the millions of pounds spent on family allowance, which is payable every week to millionaire footballers, bankers, businessmen and others? This should be sorted out first before stealing our bus pass, which we only use now and then. Or at least let us pay a nominal fare.
