Burglaries fall after arrests
BURGLARIES have dropped by 15 per cent this month following arrests of suspected thieves.
Islington police warned residents to lock doors and windows after burglaries rose sharply over June and July. But they claim a small drop in break-ins when comparing August’s figures so far (48) to those last year (56). This follows the arrests of 11 suspects.
Detective Superintendent Julie Henderson, of Islington’s 12-strong burglary squad, said: “We had a number of suspects in mind for a number of offences. We also ran an arrest operation on July 29 for other people we knew had committed burglaries.
“We believe we’ve got the main offenders off the streets and that’s reflected in the figures.”
Burglary figures for April and May were lower than last year but then shot up, overtaking last year’s statistics for June and July – with an increase of 34 (1.3 per cent). |
