Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 August 2009

We work hard to ease pain of kitting out school pupils

• WE completely empathise with Andrew Berry’s situation and as a small, family-run company we fully appreciate the effect that the recession has had on all of us (Purple braiding sends cost of school uniform soaring, August 7). As fathers ourselves, we are also aware of the costs of clothing our children for school each year as they grow faster each time we blink.
For 35 years Rough Cut Casuals has prided itself on offering competitive prices to customers, most of whom are loyal and return year upon year. Additionally, we work tirelessly to source competitive suppliers, allowing us to pass the savings onto our customers. We have a great working relationship with several schools in the area, most of whom we have been working with for more than 20 years. By providing value for money, we have earned their trust.
Although we can understand where Mr Berry is coming from, we’d like to clarify a few comments which are incorrect. The current blazers for Highbury Grove start from £33, a price which includes purple braiding, purple lining, an embroidered badge on the pocket and a free tie. Our price for this item increased this year for the first time in three. From 2006, the price of a school blazer (without braiding and special coloured lining) started from £30 and remained that way until this year.
With regard to the tracksuit, in the past between £16 and £20 would purchase a plain black sweatshirt and jogging bottoms.
For an additional £3.50, our customers’ children are now wearing a far superior quality micro-fibre tracksuit, with branded badges on both top and bottom.
Rough Cut Casuals has always offered a 10 per cent discount to customers who purchase school uniforms before July 31.
Although this offer has now closed, our website hosts all items and bespoke uniforms available in our shop. We would love to offer Tribune readers a 10 per cent discount if they shop online before September 4. Simply browse the site, choose your items and enter the discount code at checkout. Discount code: DS74X6P03BSE9F.
