Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 7 August 2009

Too pretty for prison

• AS a taxpayer I am appalled and outraged by the sight of beautiful hanging baskets at Holloway Prison.
Let us not forget that this is a prison, and is not supposed to look nice. It costs the taxpayer enough money to keep the prisoners in the manner they have been made accustomed to, without pretty floral embellishments.
I would rather the baskets were placed at a hospital, where people are lying ill, some the victims of the people locked up in prison.
The person whose idea this was is insensitive and should be sacked. It’s giving the wrong message. Please can we have only people with common sense spending our money.
