Groovy students top of pops

MUSICAL maestros from Highbury Grove School have won this year’s Schools Rock 4 Islington competition.
The school’s Groove Collective battled against seven other bands at LSO St Luke’s in Finsbury.
The bands performed songs they had written as well as covers from different genres of music.
Groove Collective won a trophy and a day recording their songs onto disc at Berry Street Studios. About £400 raised from ticket sales was donated to charity Childline.
Police Superintendent John Sutherland, one of the judges, said: “I was seriously impressed by the talent on display, and delighted to see so many teenagers once again challenging the negative stereotypes that often persist about young people in London. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event.”
Schools Rock 4 Islington, funded by Islington Police and Islington Council, was launched last year.
