Diary: Anne Frank honour

A NEW bust of Anne Frank has pride of place at a Highgate primary school.
Children at St Joseph’s have been rewarded with the sculpture for their hard work on the life of the celebrated young diarist who died in Bergen-Belsen.
Teacher Paul Sutton said: “Gillian Walnes, the director of the Anne Frank Trust, told the children that the award was in recognition of all the work on Anne Frank over the past 12 years. Year 6 classes study the life of Anne as a way of looking at the Holocaust, to learn the lessons of discrimination, prejudice and racism, and to apply these to their own lives.”
The project culminates in a visit to Amsterdam to see where Anne lived and went into hiding and an exhibition of their work for parents and friends.
Summing up what the project means to him, Romeo Mika said: “It’s like we have a bond that can’t be broken, especially since reading Anne’s diary. We understand each other. We can make a difference. It’s like when you lob a pebble into the middle of a pond and the ripples spread out. We are the pebbles, and the ripples are our message to the rest of the world.”

GREAT looking sculpture of Anne Frank! You may want to read my book, Being Frank with Anne- a poetic interpretation of the diary. I'm blessed to have gotten Miep Gies to autograph a copy of one of my books. I feel honored that she did that. It took a lot of courage for her to have helped hide the Frank family in The Secret Annexe. www.beingfrankwithanne.com Contact me at pjwriter7@aol.com
