Shopkeeper shooting: police arrest man

A 30-YEAR-OLD man linked to a Turkish gang has been arrested in connection with the death of Holloway shop worker Ahmed Paytak in March – and another arrest is imminent.
Father-of-three Mr Paytak, 50, was shot in the stomach as he closed up the Euro Food and Wine shop at the junction of Hornsey Road and Tollington Road, in what detectives described from the start as a mistaken identity killing.
His gunman – who also shot Mr Paytak’s 21-year-old son Huseyin in the leg – was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle that rode up onto the pavement before coming to a stop outside the shop.
Detective Chief Inspector Carl Mehta, who is leading the investigation, said yesterday (Thursday) that a known associate of three brothers who head up the notorious Turkish gang the Bombacilars was arrested on July 13 on suspicion of murder.
Officers are currently raking through evidence found at his Hackney home and plan to re-interview him again in September. He is on bail and has not been charged.
DCI Mehta said: “We arrested a man who is connected the Bombacilar family, the three Armagan brothers. We had information that he might have been the user of the bike prior to the murder. We have arrested him.”
DCI Mehta also revealed another arrest was imminent after police identified a second suspect involved in the killing of Mr Paytak.
“We are planning to make a second arrest and have a man in mind who we are seeking out,” DCI Mehta added.
“We are looking for him although we don’t know where he is at the moment. He will be arrested on suspicion of murder. It depends how quickly we can locate him to execute his arrest but I’m hoping it will be very soon.”
DCI Mehta said he felt positive about the investigation, but warned it was a “long road with a long way to go but we are progressing in the right direction”.
