Fatal overdose after leaving hospital
A SUICIDAL patient who walked out of the Whittington Hospital because he thought the nurses were trying to kill him later took an overdose at his hostel.
An inquest heard on Tuesday how disabled Vincent Collin, 37, of the Arundel Project, a homeless hostel in Holloway Road, died in March after taking an overdose of the antipsychotic and antidepressant drug amisulperide.
Initially admitted to the hospital for treatment for deep vein thrombosis in one leg, Mr Collin walked out at 9pm.
St Pancras Coroner’s court heard how after heading back to his hostel he took an overdose and was taken back to the hospital by paramedics.
Mr Collin attempted to fight doctors off when they tried to take a blood sample, before collapsing.
Recording a verdict of misadventure, coroner Dr Andrew Reid ruled that he died from a blood clot in the artery leading from the heart to the lungs. A “more than minimal contributory factor” was amilsulperide toxicity. |
