Sky deal’s the limit
• RECENTLY the Tribune reported that Homes for Islington (HfI), in partnership with BSkyB, had installed huge cables obstructing wonderful views from our homes (Estate satellite dish ban blacks out TV football, June 19). Since this happened, the Labour opposition has submitted a motion to the full council raising concerns about the whole BSkyB deal. We have now had to make a stage two complaint.
Despite many finding that they too found the quality of the installation “shocking”, HfI has still not confirmed it is going to move cables, even though it acknowledged it did not consult residents about where or how the installation would be done.
HfI also signed the deal with BSkyB two years before it got round to “consulting” residents at the area consultative housing panels. A lot of the issues that are coming up now – ranging from inability to access foreign language channels, residents paying for a service they already had and more – were raised, but fell on deaf ears.
Is this really the standards we should expect from a three-star- rated housing organisation? When is HfI going to accept it works for us, and should consult and actually listen to residents?
