Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 26 June 2009

Marginal? Not quite

• I KNOW that the Conservative candidate doesn’t live in Islington, but her claims last week just show her lack of local knowledge (Broadband link for all, June 19).
The last council election results in Bunhill ward showed Lib Dems first, Labour second, Independent Working Class Association third and Tories fourth. With Lib Dems winning 31 per cent of the votes and the Conservatives in fourth place with just 12.5 per cent, Bunhill is hardly a Lib Dem-Tory marginal.
In the recent Euro elections it was fourth place again, and in the last general election the Tory vote was a low third place, with Labour winning by just 484 votes over the Lib Dems.
Those Conservatives, and others, who wish to keep the heirs to Margaret Hodge’s “champagne socialism” out of the Town Hall, and kick Gordon Brown out of government, may need to consider the local circumstances carefully before they cast their vote.
