Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 June 2009

School just got bigger

• HAS anyone seen the St Mary Magdalene Academy Ofsted report? It makes reference to the fact that this academy is to be host to 1,700 students. Where did this figure suddenly spring from?
Everybody, including the council, was led to believe the figure was only 1,400. How has it suddenly gone up? What are the academy sponsors up to? The community needs to know why it is happening.
Don’t the school governors and the Diocese of London know that we, the tax-paying community, have a right to know? The initial application clearly shows the school is for 1,400 pupils. Does the academy think it is a law unto itself? The brochure states there will be 300 sixth-form students; it was about 125 before. This site and building are too small for 1,700 students.
It’s about time Islington Council brought this academy to book and made sure the school adheres to the original plan and doesn’t change it to suit itself.
