Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 June 2009

Only one discount

• I AM sorry Lillian Fox misunderstood the pensioner council tax discount (Discount diddle, June 5). We have always referred to it as a discount or a rebate and, as such, it is not paid to anyone receiving council tax benefit as they would then get their council tax refunded twice. This would be unfair to everyone who only gets the rebate once!
Where people receive less than £100 in council tax benefit, the council is “topping up” their benefit to £100.
If you think this applies to you, please ring the council on 020 7527 2000.
Cllr BARRY EDWARDS
Labour, Holloway ward
