Arsenal to appeal over away fans’ coaches

Arsenal are to appeal to a government planning inspector for permission to park up to 50 coaches belonging to opposition fans in residential streets around the Emirates Stadium.
No date has yet been fixed for the application which is expected to be heard later this year.
The club are seeking approval for coaches to be allowed to park at the Sobell Sports Centre, Hornsey Street, Drayton Park and in Finsbury Park.
Arsenal have decided to appeal against a refusal to park around the Emirates which was taken at a planning meeting in March this year and attended by the Gunners’ managing director Ken Friar.
The club had originally intended to build an underground car park space for coaches at the Ashburton Grove stadium. This idea was dropped after police said the scheme posed a terrorist risk.
Highbury Labour councillor Richard Greening said the move to go to a public inquiry would anger a lot of people.
“No one likes coaches parked close to their homes, particularly when they are belching out fumes from engines continually Campaigners pictured outside the Sobell centre with staff member Bob Overton: Gordon Kerr, Katie Dawson with son Abel, 3, James Dunnett, London Assembly member Jennie Jones, and Andrew Myer
