Coach parking objections were written out of record
• ISLINGTON Council claims to good practice and democracy are undermined by the apparent manipulation of meeting minutes to “rewrite history”.
The east area planning sub-committee minutes of March 3 were not agreed at two subsequent meetings. At the April 18 meeting, three councillors (two Labour, one Green) challenged aspects of accuracy and made clear the need for minutes to reflect at least the framework and spirit of decisions.
The well-attended public meeting of March 3 overwhelmingly objected to Arsenal’s on-street coach parking application. The committee refused the application and there was clearly voiced commitment to “no on-street parking” of coaches. The minutes are derisorily short, and are regarded as a travesty by many who were present and a cynical attempt to edit the outcomes.
The omission of “no on-street parking” takes on particular significance in view of subsequent and current Arsenal applications all based predominantly on “on-street parking”.
