Shame on neighbours
• AS residents of a neighbouring borough, we frequently use Camden roads but are terrified of the parking regime, and so rarely stop if we can help it. Today, I had the pleasure of taking my teenage son to watch school mates playing a qualifying heat in a band competition, on the street outside the Roundhouse at Chalk Farm.
I carefully and, as far as I could make out after checking all signs, legally parked my car a few minutes after noon on a Saturday, and left a valid pay-and-display parking ticket on the vehicle windscreen in clear view.
I returned to the car with five minutes to spare to find the dreaded yellow plastic envelope so familiar to Camden residents and visitors. I now have to go through the hassle of appeal to have this error wiped off my slate.
The parking regime is a terrible advertisement for Camden, and is widely regarded as the worst in London, exacerbated by poor signposting.
My wife and I avoid Camden like the plague. On this occasion I took a chance and parked legally for less than 30 minutes and received a £120 fine. Shame on Camden. I will look for entertainment in other boroughs in future.
