Cycle lanes
• ONCE again we cyclists are under attack in the press. As one who stops at red lights and does not ride on the pavement, I have to say I feel aggrieved all the same.
It is my contention that the number of cyclists who ride on the pavement is hugely exaggerated. In my 12 or more miles a day around London I rarely see bikes on the pavement.
What I do see, however, are many pedestrians walking on cycle lanes and stepping into the road without looking first. I’ve been shouted at to “Get off the pavement” when there are clear line drawings of a bicycle on the ground.
Let’s consider one another – that includes the reckless bike riders, but also those selfish pedestrians who I have to dodge more times per day than I can count.
