Appeal launched for former Arsenal star, Kennedy
HIS bullet header against rivals Tottenham Hotspur won the league for Arsenal at White Hart Lane in 1971.
But the glittering career of Ray Kennedy ended prematurely after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, aged 35. The striker then had to sell his medals, caps, shirts and other memorabilia after falling on hard times.
Now, the Ray of Hope Appeal has been launched to raise funds for specialist equipment to help Mr Kennedy, who is home-bound.
Kennedy also won the league title with Liverpool and scored for the Reds in the winning UEFA Cup final match in 1976.
Kennedy coached briefly at Sunderland, where he now lives, but has spent most of his life since retirement publicising and raising funds for the research and treatment of Parkinson’s.
The new appeal was launched at the thrilling 4-4 meeting match between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield on Tuesday.
