Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 April 2009

Still fuming over buses?

• EARLIER in the year Lib Dem councillors brought to my attention that residents at Highbury Corner have become increasingly fed up with fumes and noise from nearby buses. This is a serious problem as the 277 bus, a 24-hour service, terminates at Highbury Corner, where buses queue up before setting off again.
I have taken this issue up with Mayor of London Boris Johnson. He has reiterated the long-standing claim that bus drivers are instructed to switch off engines when they are parked on the stand. It is further claimed that notices are displayed in bus garages and at bus stands to reinforce this message.
The Mayor even claims Transport for London has now raised the issue with the bus operator.
Such assurances are fine if they are actually being met, but if they are not being observed please do contact me at City Hall and I will remind the Mayor of the assurances he has given residents.
