Six ways to stop the rot
• SMALL businesses are having a harder time than most these days and every little bit helps. I would like to suggest a few things that the council can, possibly, do to help in Archway:
• Remove all parking restrictions from 6pm Friday until Monday morning.
• Set up help/information centres in empty premises for businesses.
• Convert an empty property into an art gallery for schoolchildren and youth groups.
• Use offenders on community service to clean up forgotten pathways and alleys.
• Re-open the Archway market at Archway rather than on the corner of St John’s.
• Use an empty property for a once-a-week swap shop.
Other ideas would be to get landlords and owners to paint exterior hoardings on all empty properties.
I would also organise a summer mini-festival to be held in and around Archway with a local theme.
Finally, an investigation or survey should be carried out into why so many properties are being left empty for so long and what the council can do to assist in re-opening some of them.
These are just some of the inexpensive ways we can boost Archway and stop the rot that’s slowly creeping in.
