Sam makes his way from the N1 Centre
Cross road: Student Sam carries on an Upper Street tradition

SCIENTIST Sam Stephens valiantly carried a bulky wooden cross without flinching through the streets of Islington on Good Friday as part of the annual Christian procession.
Mr Stephens was watched by crowds of onlookers as he carried the cross weighing 21 kilos and measuring seven feet by three feet, from the N1 Centre to St Mary’s church, Upper Street.
The 33-year-old, who studies genetic disease control at the University of London, said: “I put myself in a spiritual mood so that I didn’t notice the cross or the people watching me.”
He added: “It was a very worthwhile experience.”
