Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 April 2009

Attack on campaign

• THE Charity Commission has decided unilaterally to treat Viva Palestina, the campaign launched by our Respect movement in the midst of the Israeli onslaught on the people of Gaza, as though it were a charity. It has frozen the Viva Palestina bank account and instructed this political campaign to change certain items on its website.
This is intolerable interference, compounded by the fact that the Charity Commission has done nothing to discipline the Zionist Federation and a British charity, Operation Wheelchairs Committee, from funding the Israeli army.
We intend to take this matter up in the House of Commons as soon as it resumes. In the meantime, a lengthy and expensive legal case is likely, unless and until the Charity Commission reviews its actions.
