Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 February 2009

Look out, we’re back

• COUNCILLOR Jyoti Vaja should check her facts before making flippant remarks. She claims that the Tories haven’t had a councillor in Islington for more than 20 years (Boris’s big slip-up, February13). This is untrue.
We have had two councillors in under 20 years and in 2010 I believe we will have several. The last Conservative councillor was Dave Barnes, who defected from Labour to become a Tory in March 2006 and the one before was Conservative councillor Clive Blackwood.
Judging by the results of the Mayoral elections last May, the Conservatives stand a very good chance of winning seats in Islington at the next local elections.
People are turning to the Tories in droves. In May 2008, we came second to Labour across many parts of certainly the south of the borough – the Lib Dems often being relegated to fourth place. Look out, Lib Dems!
