Man in ‘serious condition’ after triple stabbing

A MAN has been seriously wounded after violence broke out on an estate in Canonbury last Friday.
Police were called to a flat in Bentham Court, Rotherfield Street, at 4am where a 20-year-old man was found with knife wounds. He was taken to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where police said he remains in a “serious but stable” condition.
Police discovered two other men, both in their early 20s, in Bentham Court with minor knife injuries. They were discharged from hospital into police custody and later released on bail.
Detectives are investigating possible links between the attack and reports of a fight at the junction of Essex Road and New North Road shortly before.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “There was a lot of shouting and there was obviously some kind of fight going on. I got up to look outside the window but couldn’t see anything. Then the police arrived and the blue lights were flashing outside for a few hours.”
Police cordoned off the estate, forcing shopkeepers on Essex Road to shut up for the day. An anti-social behaviour diversionary scheme has recently been set up on the estate but residents said there was no longer a problem with youth crime.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 4.06am on Friday to reports of a man injured at an address in Rotherfield Street. Local officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and a 20-year-old man was taken to an east London hospital with stabbing injuries.
“His condition is described serious but stable. At this early stage officers believe the incident may be linked to a call at 3.53am on Friday to New North Road to reports of three men fighting. Following a search of the local area two men – a 22-year-old man and a man in his 20s – were found also suffering from stabbing injuries.
“They were taken to separate London hospitals, treated and then discharged into police custody. They are currently on bail.”
