Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 January 2009

Rent rise a step too far

• THE Labour government’s guaranteed rent rises are a slap in the face for Islington tenants, especially when times are hard like now.
Year on year, rents are going up and up. But Labour has never asked tenants if they are happy to pay this increase. Deliberately using old inflation figures to rake in more cash just adds insult to injury.
Liberal Democrats are determined to help ease the pressure on people’s wallets as much as we can. That’s why we have rejected an extra 59p rent rise each week as a step too far when so many Islington residents are struggling to make ends meet.
