Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 January 2009

Demolition dust storm

• IN 2006, Boris Johnson wrote: “Chinese cultural influence is virtually nil, and unlikely to increase… Indeed, high Chinese culture and art are almost all imitative of western forms…”
Fast forward to 2008, and Mr Johnson is Mayor of London, representing London’s huge and culturally rich Chinese community. Strangely, he seems to have changed his view.
The same Boris Johnson who made these comments will this week be attending “China in London 2009”, a celebration of Chinese culture welcoming the Year of the Ox. Oh what interesting times we live in.
