Man banned from park for two years over drug dealing offences

A MAN has been banned from a park for two years after he was caught carrying eight bags of cannabis.
Highbury Corner Magistrates imposed a two-year anti-social behaviour order on Shumon Ahmed, 20, from Inglebert Street, Finsbury, after he was last week convicted of possessing the drugs at Grimaldi Park, off Pentonville Road, in October last year.
He was also sentenced to 70 hours of community service.
Mr Ahmed has been banned from the park and the roads around Priory Green estate until December 2010.
Islington Police anti-social behaviour team applied for the Asbo following numerous complaints from residents about a group of male youths regularly seen smoking cannabis in Grimaldi Park.
Parents of young children also complained because there is a play area in the park.
PC Graham Burke from the anti-social behaviour team said: “This Asbo will stop Ahmed from using or dealing drugs in Grimaldi Park, and make visiting the play area a much safer and more pleasant experience for the children and their parents.”
PC Richard Hill, from Barnsbury Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “We received many complaints about Ahmed, who used to hang around the park with his friends and was regularly stopped by officers. Banning him from the park will give us more time to deal with other issues.”
