Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 09 January 2009

Booze bid so sneaky

• COUNCILLOR James Kempton’s exaggerated claim that Islington Council is “marvellous” made me squirm. Marvellous? I have other epithets for the Lib Dem performance and I can add another one now – “sneaky”. For that is how it is dealing with an application for off-sales of booze (until late in the evening) in premises in Canonbury Place. It has not even notified the immediate neighbours of the application and the required notice could easily pass unnoticed – posted on a side window in the shop.
Residents can buy alcohol in the corner shop two doors away so a lure to late-night drinkers is definitely not needed in this residential area. I hope Canonbury residents will put in their objections to the council well before January 15.
