Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 09 January 2009

Traffic ups and downs

• I HAVE driven in this borough for more than 50 years and I think it’s absolutely atrocious what this council has done regarding road humps.
Two years ago I had to refit two front suspension legs on my previous car, which cost me £200. This borough is not only the worst in London but the worst in the country. They pulled the humps up in Barnet ages ago and the accident numbers never increased.
If they want drivers to cut their speed they should install cameras. Goodness knows how much they have spent since they started installing those humps.
The police hate them; ambulance drivers, bus drivers and taxi drivers all hate them. You can drive around Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Notting Hill safely and you hardly see any.
As for the holes in the roads, some of them look like they have been hit by a bomb. If the council had spent the money on the roads and streets instead of the humps it would probably have one of the best boroughs in London.
In my opinion these humps will eventually go but I wouldn’t like to say when. All I can say is: they are a menace.
