Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 December 2008

Fire risks pinpointed

• LAST month, Homes for Islington (HfI) chose to recognise the London Fire Brigade for the work it has undertaken with us in fire prevention.
I would like to thank the fire brigade for its work with us in this area. Its home visits are a superb service, helping to prevent fires in the home, and include the installation of a free fire alarm where necessary.
Through the brigade’s work with us we have been better able to assess the fire safety needs of our most vulnerable tenants and ensure an assessment is carried out during work on their homes. This has meant more than 600 of our most vulnerable households have received a home fire safety visit in the last year. Training from the fire brigade also means HfI staff can now carry out these assessments, meaning an extra 20 households can be assessed each month.
This work has brought advice, support and benefits to those most at risk. The London Fire Brigade deserves credit for that work.
ADAM BORRIE
Chair, board of directors, Homes for Islington
