Bid to buy block that lies empty

A BLOCK of shops and homes that has been empty for years could soon be compulsorily bought by the Town Hall.
Council officers are preparing a list of buildings which may be bought using compulsory purchase laws. The block, 141-157 Whitecross Street, Finsbury, consists of shops on the basement and ground floors and homes on the first and second storeys.
Officials were unable to say for how long the building has been empty but explained it stood in a “key regenerational area” for the council and EC1 New Deal for Communities.
The plans will be discussed at a meeting of the council’s executive in January.
