Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 December 2008

What will go next?

• I SYMPATHISE with the anger felt by Richard Lucas at the very silly, politically motivated action taken by the new Mayor of London in cancelling the agreement with Venezuela offering that country expert advice on setting up a public transport system, in exchange for cheap oil to provide affordable energy to pensioners and people on benefit in this country (Thanks, Boris, for the kick in the teeth, December 5).
The loss is very much ours and Londoners will have to pay back millions of pounds for scrapping this contract. This follows a number of cuts in public services. Has anyone noticed the rapid disappearance of the Countdown information at bus stops?
It started with a failure to repair and then came the removal, which is obviously cheaper than proper maintenance. Although not infallible, Countdown was a helpful guide to bus times. What will we lose next?
