School children take a green approach to life

PUPILS with a green eye have been helping make their schools more environmentally sound.
Children from Montem Primary School’s green team have been checking the recycling bin to make sure it’s being used properly as part of a borough-wide environmental project.
They sprang into action following a visit from Islington Council’s Sustainable Schools officer.
Ten primary and two secondary schools have been selected to take part in the council-run project to make their buildings greener by reducing energy waste, healthy eating and creating nature areas.
In the summer term they will focus on greening the grounds of their schools by growing food on site.
Each school will have a Green Action Plan which will include recommendations by pupils and teachers about how their school can become more
environmentally sustainable.
The Sustainable Schools officer will visit the schools throughout the year and the programme will run for two more years, giving more schools the chance to get involved next September.
