Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 November 2008

Tree axing a mistake

• THE tree in a car park was not removed by Homes for Islington or Islington Council – both of whom have policies to protect and manage the 20,000-plus trees they are responsible for across the borough (Tree loses out to car, November 21).
Actually, the car park is on an estate managed by a housing co-op. A mistake was made in the removal of this tree and we are urgently looking for answers as to how it came to be felled.
In the meantime, Islington Council is identifying funding to replace the tree with three new specimens to ensure estate residents do not lose out in the longer term.
The council’s tree officer has been in touch with Roger Challinor to explain the situation and Homes for Islington is investigating the complaint that his letters did not receive a reply.
Cllr John Gilbert
Homes for Islington board director responsible for sustainability
