Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 November 2008

Insult to Baby P

• IS Patrick McKay seriously suggesting that the 1967 Abortion Act led directly to the killing of Baby P (When is killing OK? November 21)? First, the reason Baby P died was due to systematic abuse over a prolonged period of time by some dangerous and disturbed people. That relevant agencies failed to act makes it all the more tragic.
Second, has anyone heard of a foetus dying in this manner at the hands of the NHS since 1967? Abortions are carried out as swiftly as possible to minimise the pain for the pregnant mother and the foetus.
His argument is a scandal and insults the memory of Baby P and his wretched and short life.
