Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 November 2008

We walk miles then wait ages at PO

• THIS morning I took myself to Mount Pleasant post office, as my local one in Goswell Road has been shut.
I had not visited the Mount Pleasant office since my younger days, and what an experience? There are nine tills, a queue nearly outside the door and, guess what, only two people working.
Yes, it was 11.45am and, yes, we all had a wait of 20 minutes and, yes, people were complaining. One excuse was that staff were having a coffee break. I inquired when I finally got to the counter if there was an address I could write to and complain, and was given a leaflet but told I would not get an answer.
If small post offices, where we would get quick and friendly service, are being closed, then I think Post Office bosses should improve the larger outlets for those of us who have to walk miles to get to them.
