Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 07 November 2008

Parking’s deaf zone

• COUNCILLOR James Kempton gives the pathetic excuse that “there was not enough business” as a reason for lazily cancelling a range of council meetings, including the north area committee meeting (Meetings axed, but Town Hall insists: It’s no holiday, October 31).
Residents in Tollington ward have an important issue to discuss at the north area committee: a re-consultation on controlled parking zone J. Zone J has the longest operating hours of any parking zone in Islington. It is also the only zone in the borough where residents have not been asked how they think it is running and offered a cut in hours.
Residents are charged to park their cars outside their own home between 8.30am and 6.30pm every day of the week, except Sunday. The Lib Dems are arrogantly refusing to listen to residents who are demanding these hours are cut. At least they are honest about the reason why they are refusing to listen: they claim they cannot afford the loss of revenue from stopping ripping off Tollington residents.
Cllr Richard Watts
Labour, Tollington ward
