‘Network Rail should pay for rail footbridge’

LONDON Mayor Boris Johnson’s transport chief has backed campaigners fighting for a pedestrian bridge across the £400million redeveloped King’s Cross railway station.
Kulveer Ranger, Mr Johnson’s director of transport policy, believes Network Rail should pay for the footbridge off York Way linking the east and west sides of the station.
Campaigners say residents face being cut out of the wider £2.5bn King’s Cross regeneration scheme when current entrances to the station in Euston Road and York Way are sealed as part of the refurbishment.
In a letter to Michael Edwards, of King’s Cross Railway Lands Group, Mr Ranger said: “These changes are brought about as a result of measures implemented by Network Rail and I consider it appropriate that they should fund the proposed footbridge.”
He added: “Both I, and Transport for London, will do all we can within our powers to make this happen.”
