Fundraising firefighters’ coffee and sweet treats sell like hotcakes!

FIREFIGHTERS rolled up their sleeves, got out their best recipes and poured mountains of coffee to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Green watch officers from Islington Fire Station in Upper Street raised a record £2,060 at their most successful coffee morning yet.
Passing firefighters jumped off the bus to buy cakes and one passing police car briefly held up the traffic as the officers stopped to donate to the collection.
Green watch crew manager Emma Beattie said: “The day was a great success thanks to donations from various bakeries, coffee from Starbucks and essential sundries from Sainsbury’s. I spent the previous day cooking chocolate brownies in our catering kitchen at work, my governor watch manager, Neil Fox, made clotted cream and jam scones. We baked a load of brownies, lemon cake and scones and sold the lot.”
She added: “We also had a deep-fat fire demonstrator and made badges with the children with fire safety messages.
“We had loads of people stop and visit, thanks to the sunshine and the lure of good cake. The children got to explore the fire engines, and some adults too.”
The cheque for the total amount will be presented to Macmillan on Tuesday.
