Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 October 2008

Facing both ways

• THE scheme at Pilgrims Way, Archway, has been amended considerably to try to take on board residents’ concerns and there will also be new green space for residents to enjoy (Protesters halt demolition of garages to make way for flats, October 3). It is clear, however, that Homes for Islington’s communication with residents could have been much better.
Yet again though, we see a shining example of Labour leader Councillor Catherine West’s approach to housing locally.
On the one hand, she is always banging on about the council’s housing waiting list and the amount of affordable housing being built in Islington. Yet she also seems happy to line up with residents for another photo opportunity saying she doesn’t want to see social housing being built at Pilgrims Way and that garages are more important.
What’s it to be, Catherine? Affordable homes or garages? You can’t face both ways at once.
CLLR TERRY STACY
Lib Dem executive member for housing
