Gunners old and new back community pitch

A NEW community football pitch has opened in Elthorne Park, Holloway, after a cash donation from former Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.
The footballing genius – who scored 106 goals for the club – donated £75,000 from his testimonial match in 2006.
And Islington teenagers took advantage of the facility in Rosemary Gardens for the first time last week with a football tournament against their local police force.
Arsenal’s Croatian striker Eduardo (pictured centre) was match referee in the Kickz contest, promoting community cohesion, safety and including workshops on gun crime.
Freddie Hudson, project leader at Arsenal in the Community, said: “It was great to see young people travelling to other parts of the borough to mix with each other. It was also encouraging to see them engage with the police in such a constructive way.”
Superintendent John Sutherland, Partnership and Operations for Islington Police, added: “Our long-standing and effective partnership with Arsenal is a vitally important element of our response to the ongoing community concerns.”
Residents can turn up and use the facilities at Elthorne Park without booking.
