Scene of stabbing
Knifed shopkeeper ‘a wonderful man’

A POPULAR shopkeeper died in a stabbing at his premises in Upper Holloway on Monday.
Police this week appealed for witnesses after grandfather David Stoute, 55, was found injured at Hornsey Metal Works in Hornsey Road. He died of knife wounds before reaching hospital.
The married father-of-four from Tottenham was attacked inside his shop just after 10pm. He received several stab wounds to the neck and groin. It is believed Mr Stoute knew his attacker.
Newsagent Sashi Karama said: “I can’t believe it. It’s terrible. He was a good man. I’ve known him for about eight years and we have never shared a cross word.”
Lift engineer Danny Gilroy, a former work colleague, was devastated by the news. He said: “I saw police standing outside his shop and the road taped off. It’s come as a terrible shock. He was a big family man with a lot of friends. He was really popular – there will be hundreds at the funeral.”
Mr Stoute, an evangelical Christian, worshipped at Grace Fellowship Church in Whitehall Street, Tottenham, for 20 years.
Pastor D Marche, its centre director, said: “He was a wonderful man. Everybody loved him. He came to services regularly every Sunday. He had great humour and generosity. When anything needed fixing around the church he would do it for free.”
Dominic Ryan, 20, of Chingford, has been charged with Mr Stoute’s murder and was remanded by Highbury magistrates on Wednesday. He is due to appear
in court again on December 24.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call 020 8345 3985.
