Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 September 2008

Gallery loss was a waste

• GALLERY Space, which attracted 10,000 visitors and which I ran in Finsbury Park for just one year, still remains shut after I was forced to vacate the building on June 29.
Readers will be interested to know that, despite the pledges from Haringey Council that it needed the building to turn it into a resource centre, it still remains empty and forgotten.
For the record, from April last year, when I opened the gallery, until June 29 this year, we held 10 art exhibitions involving local and international artists with thousands of visitors for each event.
There appeared to be no justification for closing the venue. Not only was it a benefit to the community who live around the park but we received many positive reviews for our exhibitions in local papers, including the Tribune.
Thousands signed a petition to keep the gallery but to no avail. What a terrible waste.
